“Lost a Piece of Childhood” – 90’s kids react to Undertaker’s retirement

After his second loss at Wrestlemania coming at the hands of Roman Reigns, it seems like the Undertaker’s time in WWE may have come to an end. The Undertaker took off his gloves, jacket and hat. He left them in the ring, (broke character) kissed his wife Michelle McCool at ringside as he walked down the aisle as WWE thanked the legend with a hash tag – #ThankYouTaker.

His match with Shane McMahon last year was an entertaining contest fought inside the confines of Hell in a Cell. After beating Shane, Undertaker took his gloves off and hung up on the structure’s hinges – a literal indication that he was hanging up his gloves for good. But fast forward a year, the Undertaker was back at the Royal Rumble to vie for a spot in the main event of Wrestlemania.

There are still many match-ups that the Undertaker could consider – if he decides to return once again: the match against John Cena that was rumoured for Wrestlemania 32 was cancelled due to an injury to Mr. Hustle, Loyalty and Respect; a long-standing dream match against Sting is also a possibility. The Stinger has stated in reports that he has yet to have the neck surgery that will end his career inside the ring because he still wants to have the match at Wrestlemania against the Deadman.

But with every passing year, the Undertaker’s health deteriorates further, which reduces the chances for those matches ever taking place. It remains to be seen whether he is willing to have another go at it; but for now, he looks to be riding into the sunset of his illustrious career and will undoubtedly go down in the history books as the greatest gimmick wrestler of all time.
