IPL 2017: Delhi Daredevils – Key Players

Yet to win their maiden Indian Premier League title, Delhi Daredevils will once again be eyeing to put their best foot forward in the 10th edition of the cash-rich league. After making it to the playoffs in the first two editions of T20 tournament (2008 and 2009), Delhi failed to lift their game in rest of the seasons. Daredevils finished at the sixth spot in the 2016 edition of the IPL.

After making a few changes at this year’s player auction in February, can the double D’s put up a memorable show this year in the IPL? Let’s take a look at the key players of Delhi Daredevils in this season:-

Kagiso Rabada

The highly talented South African pacer is touted as the next biggest superstar in world cricket. Bought at a whopping price of Rs 5 crore, Rabada’s addition in Delhi Daredevils will bolster their bowling attack. The 21-year old has played 30 T20s, picked up 39 wickets at an average of 21.76. His strike-rate of 17.4 also makes him an exciting prospect for the shorter format.

Pat Cummins

Considered as a T20 specialist, Patrick Cummins is one of the world’s fastest bowler who was picked up Delhi for Rs 4.5 crore in last season. After a good outing in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Delhi will hope that Cummins to continue his strong form in the shorter format as well. The Sydney-born pacer has played 57 T20s, picked up 66 wickets with an economy of less than 8.

Zaheer Khan

Probably, the greatest left-arm seamer produced by India, Zaheer Khan joined the Delhi outfit in 2016 and was instantly promoted as the leader of the side. Despite retiring from international cricket, the 38-year-old has a lot to offer in terms of experience and skills which can make the difference for Delhi in the tenth season of IPL. The master craftsman has played 127 T20s, picked up 129 wickets at a tidy economy of 7.40. If Delhi wants to win, Zak has to lead from the front!

Sam Billings

25-year old Billings is a seasoned T20 professional when it comes to T20 cricket. The Kent-born cricketer has all the traits of a modern day batsman which makes him a complete package in the shorter version. In absence of JP Duminy and Quinton de Kock, Sam Billings will have a major role to play in Delhi’s batting order. He has played 99 T20s so far, scored 1714 runs at a strike rate of close to 125.
