Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh 2nd Test: Can Bangladesh fight back to level the series?

Playing their 100th test match since becoming the full-time member of the ICC in 2000, Bangladesh have become the fastest team to 100 tests, which they have reached in 16 years and 4 months. They will now be playing their centenary game against the Lankans at the P Sara Oval in Colombo.

Bangladesh have just 8 wins to their name in the 99 tests they have played so far. Mushfiqur Rahim and his boys will be hoping that the number goes up by one in the historic test. They have 76 defeats to their name, which itself is a record, albeit a dubious one. The visitors will have to play to their maximum potential if they want to prove themselves.

With a string of low scores to his name, all-rounder Mahmudullah has been dropped from the playing XI. He had scores of 8 and 0 in the first test at Galle. Though he had managed to score a fifty in the one-off test against India, he had gone without a fifty for 10 innings before that. Imrul Kayes, who missed Bangladesh's last three tests due to injury, has been named as his replacement in the batting order.

Though Sri Lanka outperformed Bangladesh in all the departments in the first test, Rangana Herath and his men will have an eye on the fielding as there were a few fumbles and dropped catches at Galle.

Sri Lanka – Key Players

Upul Tharanga: Scoring his first test century at home in the first test, opener Upul Tharanga is bursting with confidence. He had a good tour of South Africa with the bat, where he scored a century in the ODIs after being named skipper in the absence of Angelo Mathews. He will be eyeing consistent performance to keep his confidence levels high as the Champions Trophy is in sight.

Dilruwan Perera: The all-rounder was the silent performer in the first test of the series. He has 84 runs 5 wickets to his name from the game. A consistent performance with wickets to his name and contributions lower down the order makes Perera as an asset to the team. Sri Lanka will be hoping that he continues to play the role of the perfect all-rounder in the side.

Bangladesh Key Players

Mehedi Hasa: The young off-spinner has played exceptionally well for Bangladesh. He had a charismatic match against a touring English side at Dhaka with 12 wickets. He scored his first test fifty against India and was one of the few Bangladesh batsmen to resist the attack of the Lankan spinners in both innings and also scalped 6 wickets in the game. Hasan isn't a player whom the Lankans would take lightly.

Mushfiqur Rahim: The captain's sublime form has been the only reason to smile for Bangladesh. He has scored at a staggering average of over 100 in 4 tests in 2017 and he will be the backbone of the batting lineup along with Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hassan. He scored 85 in the first innings of the first test and will be keen on continuing his form in the second test as well.
