According to a report by the New Indian Express, Indian cricket team is set for a major change with Anil Kumble set to be the director and Rahul Dravid set to be the coach of the Indian Cricket Team.
The current tour of Australia will be Kumble’s last assignment. He will take his new role reportedly on April 14th. Kumble was asked to prepare a report covering women's and junior cricket as well. He was asked to do by the BCCI Committee of Administrators who met him on the sidelines of the BCCI awards in Bengaluru.
Vinod Rai led the Committee of Administrators and talked with assistant coaches Sanjay Bangar and R Sridhar saying, "We need to move ahead with the times and that is why these structural changes are looked at."
"If it happens, Indian cricket will benefit, as one person will handle all the teams and there will be better coordination between all concerned,” said a senior BCCI official.
He also added that the changes have already started and the new contracts will be issued soon. He also felt that Kumble needs to be ready to handle the role as being the coach and director is no easy task.
“If he doesn’t, we need the back-up as we can’t let the team getting affected, particularly with the Champions Trophy coming up," he concluded.
