Eyeing a comeback in Team India, discarded wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel celebrated his 32nd birthday today. At the age of 17 years and 153 days, Parthiv became the youngest wicketkeeper in the history of Test cricket when he made his debut against England at Trent Bridge. But, the Ahmedabad-born wicket-keeper didn’t’ manage to cement his place in the Indian team due to his shoddy work behind the wicket. He lost his place eventually to MS Dhoni who went on to become one of the world’s best gloveman.
But with a never-say-die attitude, Parthiv kept putting in the hard yards in domestic cricket to prove a case for himself at the top level. This year, Parthiv struck his 25th first-class hundred which helped Gujarat to clinch its maiden Ranji Trophy in the history of Indian domestic cricket. Parthiv Patel scored an excellent 143 in the second innings to help Gujarat chase down 312 against Mumbai.
Last year, the 32-year old was rewarded for his amazing consistency in domestic cricket when he earned a national call-up in the Indian Test team after a gap of eight long years in the home series against England.
Here’s how cricket stars wished Parthiv on his special day:-
