WWE Fastlane – Highlights from last pay-per-view before Wrestlemania

Milwaukee was the venue for Fastlane, WWE’s last pay-per-view before Wrestlemania. Following are the highlights from the night’s action –

Bill Goldberg wins the Universal Championship

Veteran Bill Goldberg took on Kevin Owens with RAW’s top prize hanging in the balance. Owens had won the title back in August after pinning Seth Rollins to win the vacant championship. After a heated build-up to the match, Owens stalled, strolling around the ring before the referee rang the bell. When Owens entered the ring, Jericho’s music hit and gave Goldberg the opening to hit the Spear-Jackhammer combination to pin Owens and become the new Universal Champion.

Reigns topples Strowman

Roman Reigns overcame the behemoth Braun Strowman in a match featuring two of the most feared superstars in the RAW locker room. The slugfest was an exciting affair – Roman trying to capitalize on his opportunities using his superior speed and agility, while Strowman was hell-bent on catching Reigns in his powerful maneuvers. The action spilled to the outside and Braun sent Roman through the announce table. In the final sequence, Reigns was able to hit the spear after Strowman missed an aerial move and pinned him for the win.

Bayley breaks Charlotte’s PPV win-streak

Bayley defended her Women’s championship against Charlotte in a closely-fought match. The two women were neck-and-neck for the majority of the contest, with neither one being able to hold the advantage for long. Sasha Banks proved to be the difference-maker when she distracted Charlotte, allowing Bayley to hit the suplex on the floor. Charlotte came back and rolled Bayley up and grabbed her tights, but Sasha informed the referee before the pin could be completed. In the end, Bayley hit the Bayley-to-Belly suplex to pick the win and end Charlotte’s unbeaten pay-per-view streak.

Samoa Joe beats Sami Zayn

The destroyer made his pay-per-view debut against Sami Zayn after wreaking havoc on the main roster from the moment he made the jump from NXT. The match was filled with high-impact moves – Joe hit the Enziguri and the Senton Bomb. Zayn retaliated by locking Joe in the head-scissors to slow the pace down. But Joe took the best Zayn had to offer and avoided the Helluva kick. Joe sealed the deal with the Coquina Clutch.
