4 Things we Learnt from Liverpool 3-1 win over Arsenal

Liverpool comfortably beat Arsene Wenger's Arsenal by 3-1 thanks to goals from Firmino, Mane and Wijnaldum. Welbeck scored the solitary Arsenal goal this evening, which turned out to be another frustrating day for the North London club. With this result have huge implications on the upper end of the table, here are the 4 things we learned from this match-

1.  Liverpool and the Top 6- Still a better love story than Twilight?

It’s not even worth mentioning now. Liverpool are just too much for the top sides of the Premier League. With this win over Arsenal, the Reds have amassed 19 points from 9 matches against the top 6. If only Klopp’s men could replicate that form against the lower placed teams, this season’s title ambitions would have remained intact. However, this indicates the class of the current Liverpool team, and how with a little bit of strengthening in the summer, they can go all the way under Jurgen Klopp.

2.  End is near for Sanchez and Arsene

It came from absolutely nowhere. It shocked Arsenal fans. Their star man, top scorer, top assister benched for such an important clash? No one could figure out why Arsene Wenger made this decision. Deciding to field a starting 11 without Sanchez, Walcott and Ozil, the Frenchman defended his decision that his side needed to be strong in the air. But sacrificing Alexis Sanchez for that immediately infuriated the Gunners’ fans who are already calling out for Wenger’s sacking. He was brought on in the second half and what a difference he made to this Arsenal side with his presence. The result could have been different if he had started this clash and Arsene Wenger’s team selection is sure to be questioned.

3.  Gini Wijnaldum- the key to this well-oiled Liverpool machine

The former Newcastle midfielder has been exceptional in the recent past and his contribution to this Liverpool side has gone under the radar. However, since his goal against Manchester City he has been appreciated by the Anfield faithful and with 4 goals and another 4 assists already credited to his name this season will go down as a successful one for him. His slick movement along with his exquisite passing and tremendous work rate makes him a key player for Jurgen Klopp.

4.  We're in for a fierce battle for the Top 4

Liverpool are now level on points with Manchester City, and 2 points ahead of Arsenal. However, City have 2 games in hand and Arsenal have one. Manchester United are not far behind, 3 points behind Liverpool with a game in hand while Tottenham are on 53 points and sit in second place. 5 teams are competing for the remaining 3 UCL spots and this race for the top 4 is sure to go down to the wire.
