Premier League: Player Ratings – Manchester United vs Bournemouth

It was a frustrating afternoon for United as they could not get the three points they would have hoped for and a chance to break into the top four for the first time since early December. Against a 10-man Bournemouth side, United would feel greatly unlucky as their top four finish looks bleak now.

Manchester United

De Gea – 6/10

The Spanish international shot-stopper had very little to do, especially in the second half when Bournemouth played with 10 men. Couldn’t get near the penalty shot from Joshua King.

Antonio Valencia – 7/10

Was a constant threat down the right flank with his continuous overlapping runs. Made the assist to the opening goal for Marcus Rojo. But overall his crossing lacked quality

Phil Jones – 4/10

Playing his first game after an injury lay-off, conceded a few mistakes early in the game. Gave away a clumsy foul inside the penalty box by sliding in on Pugh in the first half. Wasn’t as comfortable defending throughout the match which reiterated United’s need for a stable centre-back in the summer.

Marcus Rojo – 6/10

Scored his first league goal for United. Was much more comfortable in defending than his centre-back partner but struggled sometimes with the physicality of Afobe.

Luke Shaw – 6/10

Came back into the starting 11. Offered attacking options down the left flank. Not sure whether he has done enough to justify his place in the starting 11 next season. Was withdrawn late in the game as United went for the winner.

Michael Carrick – 6/10

Started in the midfield pairing with Pogba for the first time this season. Looked comfortable with the passing and controlled the game for most parts of it. Was booked for a foul on King.

Paul Pogba – 5/10

Had a very poor performance in comparison to his standards. His passing was all over the place and he missed two chances in the dying minutes of the match. Didn’t help create much chances and was too casual at times.

Juan Mata – 5/10

Had a quiet game. Was very much ineffective in the final-thirds of the pitch.

Wayne Rooney – 5/10

Back in the team after missing the EFL cup final. Lacked his cutting edge in this game and couldn’t really justify his place in the starting 11. Wasn’t much of an attacking threat.

Anthony Martial – 7/10

Probably the best player on the afternoon for United. Made spaces in the final thirds of the pitch for his teammates but the end product wasn’t quite there. Made numerous surges on the left flank but the attacking threat couldn’t produce clear cut chances.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 4/10

Was quite eventful for the daredevil. He was as bad and as good as he was in the last week of the EFL cup final. Lacked finishing quality as he missed from the penalty spot. Should have been sent off after an elbow on Mings. Was probably the worst performance in an United shirt till date.

Michael Fellaini – 5/10

Provided the physical presence on the pitch but could not do much to earn his team the three points.

Jesse Lingard – 5/10

Was a late substitution but was unable to provide an impact on the game.

Marcus Rashford – 5/10

Made promising runs in attacking thirds of the pitch but could not create the opening for the goal.
