Manchester United blew their chance to make it to the top 4 as they were held to a 1-1 draw by a 10 man Bournemouth side at Old Trafford.
The game which proved to be quite a heated encounter, saw an array of controversies with both in terms of flairing tempers and naughty tackles topped by some horrendous referering decisions. Marcos Rojo opened the scoring by guiding in Antonio Valencia's misjudged shot after the Red Devils had missed a number of chances to go ahead. Phil Jones handed Bournemouth a way back into the game after he bought Matt Pugh down in the penalty area that resulted in Josh King's perfectly taken sopt kick to level things up.
The controvery started after Tyron Mings appeared to have stamped on Zlatan Ibrahimovic's head, the Swede then violently elbowed Mings when the following set-piece was taken. Both Mings and Ibrahimovic remained on the field but Bournemouth were reduced to 10 men after Surman was given a 2nd yellow for a delicate push on Ibrahimovic who seemed to go down quite dramatically.
Bournemouth held their resolve in the 2nd half and frustarted Manchester United. Artur Boruc was a definite star as he saved Zlatan Ibrahimovic's spot-kick in fine fashion further frustrating Manchester United. Paul Pogba has two brilliant chances in extra time but he fluffed both of them to add further salt into Manchester United's wounds.
The encounter had all the ingridients to send Twiiter into a frenzy. Here is how the Twitterati reacted to the controversial clash at Old Trafford.
ZLATAN WENT FROM A HERO TO A ZERO
Zlatan Ibrahimovic missing open goals, miscontrolling balls and picking fights. Nowhere near his usual self. #MUNBOU

TYRON MINGS'S STAMP AND ZLATAN'S ELBOW WERE CERTAINLY NAUGHTY
Zlatan (elbow) and Mings (stamp) should both see red. Roll on video technology.

Zlatan was in the wrong for his elbow, but you just can't condone what Mings did. Horrible. pic.twitter.com/JDDrESIdKb

POOR SURMAN GOT THE BRUNT OF ALL THE CONTROVERSY WITH THE MILDEST OF PUSHES
A stamp to the head and elbow to the face is fine. But Surman gets sent off for talking to the ref. Must have been a brutal 'your mum' joke.

PIERS MORGAN AND MANY HAVE ZLATAN'S BACK

PAUL POGBA WAS ROASTED NOT ONLY ON THE FIELD BUT ON TWITTER TOO
Paul Pogba's big problem is that he has no composure when it matters most. Gets over-excited, tries too hard.

KEVIN FRIEND THE HERO!
Kevin Friend is a hero, had the opportunity to send Zlatan off but let him stay on so that he could miss the penalty and keep them in 6th ????????

THE UNITED FAITHFUL ARE NOT HAPPY
We always bottle up when some ridiculous PR work is done prior to a match. Talking players up, emojis, pics with a rapper. Behave as a club.
