England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the English squad for the upcoming ODI series against West Indies. England are scheduled to play a 3-match ODI series against the Caribbean side which starts on Friday. The 3 matches are scheduled to be played in North Sound, Antigua and Bridgetown Barbados.
England had a successful outing in the tour game against University of West Indies Vice Chancellor's XI, defeating the opposition by 117 runs. England put up a mammoth score of 379/8 which comprised of the fifty plus efforts from Jason Roy, Joe Root, Ben Stokes and skipper Eoin Morgan top-scoring with his 84-ball 95. The UWIVC XI's young batsman Chadwick Walton showcased a brilliant effort with his 109-ball 121 which unfortunately was not enough to take his side to victory.
Alex Hales, who was out with a fractured hand during the second ODI in Cuttack in the series against India, has recovered enough to make the cut. "The current group of players are making excellent progress under the captaincy of Eoin Morgan and head coach Trevor Bayliss and the tour of the Caribbean will enable the team to test themselves in different conditions against a competitive side in the West Indies,'' said James Whitaker, ECB's national selector.
England's tour of the Caribbean will be followed by a two-match ODI series against Ireland, and a three-match ODI series against South Africa. These matches will be extremely important for England as they build-up ahead of the Champions Trophy in June.
