IPL franchise Rising Pune Supergiants have sacked Mahendra Singh Dhoni from the team's captaincy ahead of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League which kicks off on 5th April. Australian skipper Steve Smith is all set to replace Dhoni as the new captain of the franchise.
According to sources, Dhoni has also been communicated about the decision by the franchise.
The decision has come as a shock for the cricketing fraternity a day before the IPL 2017 auction which is scheduled to be held in Bengaluru tomorrow.
Under Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Rising Pune Supergiants managed to win only five matches in their debut season last year and finished seventh in the league table. Dhoni's form was also a cause of concern for the side. He managed to score only 284 runs from 12 innings with only one fifty to his credit.

MS Dhoni recently resigned as the Indian ODI team captain handing over the baton to Virat Kohli.
The 35-year-old former Chennai Super Kings captain is one of the most successful captain in the history of IPL. As a skipper, Dhoni has won the IPL trophy twice and finished runner-up on 4 occasions as the CSK captain.
Steve Smith, who is a highly experienced international captain, will take over the mantle from the wicket-keeper in the upcoming edition of the IPL.
