NZ vs SA : 1st ODI| Hosts look to bounce back after a T20 debacle

New Zealand suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of South Africa in the only T20I. The hosts will be looking to redeem themselves after the horrific show.

Trent Boult looked in supreme form with the ball as he returned with figures of 4-0-8-2. But the rest of the New Zealand bowling attack looked hapless as they were spanked all around the ground. New Zealand's batting wasn't great either with only four batsmen managing to get into double figures and they were surprisingly all out in just the fifteenth over.

New Zealand will be hoping to start off the ODI series on a winning note. The hosts haven't won a single bilateral series against South Africa at home since 2004 and will be keen on rewriting that record. New Zealand had emerged victorious in the ODI series against Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Australia and will look to continue that momentum into this match.

South Africa, who currently boast their numero uno spot in ODI rankings will continue to hold on to their momentum as well. The visitors have blanked the likes of Australia and Sri Lanka and dethroned the former from the Number 1 ranking.

The visitors, though, have to be wary of the New Zealand side who haven't lost at home for a while. The return to form of Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers will definitely boost the visitors' chances and Imran Tahir proved the world why he is so highly rated with his five-wicket haul in the t20 match.

New Zealand vs South Africa Key Players

Kane Williamson has been the face of New Zealand Cricket since Brendon McCullum's retirement and the talismanic batsman has been in prime form. The versatile batsman has proven himself in all the formats and has always played well against South Africa. In 11 matches, he has scored 383 runs, averaging 42.55, including his best knock in ODIs.

AB de Villiers, who celebrated his 33rd birthday with a victory, played a cameo innings of 26 from just 17 deliveries. de Villiers is coming back to International Cricket after having been on the sidelines for a while. He is inching towards the landmark of 9000 runs in ODI cricket and will play a huge role for the visitors in tomorrows' enthralling contest.
