Heroes will be remembered but legends live forever. Roberto Baggio belongs to the latter genus. A brilliant player to say the least and undoubtedly, one of the best players to ever grace the Italian Serie A.
Widely remembered for his ponytail haircut, the skilful attacking midfielder played for some of the best teams in the Italy including Milan, Juventus, Inter Milan and Florentina. And wherever he went, he scored in abundance racking a total of 318 goals during his club career and another 27 for Italy to become Azzurri's fourth-highest goalscorer.
The Italian was a true maestro. He scored every kind of goal. Left footed, Right footed and believe me, they were some awesome ones in there. Be it chipping the goalkeeper, dribbling past defenders or scoring world-class beauties, the Italian was simply magical but his greatest asset was his ability to find the net from dead-ball situations.
"He took free-kicks like no other,’’
"I just used to stand there in training and study him for days. I think I learned something in the end.”
– Andre Pirlo.
There was no extent to his abilities. The ball moved at his will as if his legs had a mind of their own, enabling him to sweep past defenders like a wave, and not to forget, his ability to score true beauties.
On his 50th birthday, we have a look at the best moments from his career. The best goals he scored through the course of his career.
