Sauber driver Pascal Wehrlein has confirmed he will miss the first pre-season test for the 2017 Formula One season due to a back injury.
Soon after his move from Manor to Sauber had been confirmed, Wehrlein was hurt last month in a heavy crash at the Race of Champions in Miami.
A neck injury was initially diagnosed, but Wehrlein's team played down reports he could miss testing in Barcelona as "pure speculations".
However, the German took to Twitter on Friday to announce he would not be present at the Circuit de Catalunya when the first session begins on February 27.
"I have to skip the first winter test due to medical advice because of a BACK issue," Wehrlein wrote.
"I feel sorry for the team but we'll come back stronger!"
