5 players who can make a comeback to the Indian Team through IPL

The number one test team in the world, defending champions of the Champions Trophy and the No.2 team in the T20 standings – one can truly say that Team India is in the midst of a ‘Purple Patch’.

A settled and fearless team under the leadership of a dynamic captain in Virat Kohli and a talismanic coach in Anil Kumble, the Indian juggernaut at the moment seems to be just steamrolling oppositions in all formats.

Such has been the plethora of talent in the team that a player like Karun Nair had to sit out the game after scoring a career-defining triple century against England. Thereby for players who are waiting to break into the team, or for those who trying to make a comeback – it will be a monumental task.

Nevertheless, the IPL auctions are just around the corner. Over the years, IPL has been a platform for veterans to make a comeback and also for budding stars to prove their mettle on a global stage.

Here we take a look at the five players who stand a chance to make a comeback to Team India through the IPL-

Gautam Gambhir

The KKR skipper might have been removed as Delhi captain, but it surely will not deter Gautam Gambhir from eyeing another comeback to the Indian team. Out of mix for two years, Gambhir returned to the India fold in late 2016, but it lasted for only for two tests. A half century and a duck with two scores of 29, was all Gambhir could manage, before he was back to playing domestic cricket.

However, at 35 years of age, Gambhir refuses to give up. He has scored back-to-back half centuries in the zonal T20 tournament, a sign which clearly indicates Gambhir is far from finished. If his willow once again spits fire in the IPL, then who knows- maybe we will witness Gambhir once again in the Indian colours.
